A quote is only as good as what we know before we show up. Tell us the door's size (single or double), whether it's one-piece or sectional, and roughly how old it is - a lot of Cedar Rapids houses were built between 1943 and 2011, with most stock from the 1960s and 70s, so torsion hardware and track styles vary a lot block to block even within the same neighborhood.

Phone pricing scope

If you know the brand or can send a photo of the spring setup, that narrows things further. What we can price over the phone: a broken spring on a standard double door, a bent roller, a cable off the drum, an opener that hums but won't lift.

Cases needing inspection

What we can't price sight unseen: anything where the track is bent out of true, where the panel has rusted through (common on the older end of that 1943-2011 range), or where we don't yet know if the issue is the spring or the opener logic board. Those need someone standing in front of the door.

Towns we serve

Our service area runs through Cedar Rapids and the nearby towns - Fairfax, Hiawatha, Marion, Ely, Robins, Swisher, Shueyville, Palo, and farther out to Mount Vernon, Solon, North Liberty, and Coralville. If you're outside that range, say so up front and we'll tell you honestly whether it makes sense for us to come out.

What to expect

What Comes Next

Once you call or fill out the form, we ask a few questions to figure out if this is a same-visit repair or something that needs parts ordered first.

  1. Cold-cycled spring wear

Torsion springs rated for the cold-climate swings we get here wear differently than springs in milder regions, so if yours has been cycling hard through winter, that's useful to mention. We'll give you a window for the visit, not a guess at what's wrong before we've seen it.

  2. On-site diagnosis changes price

When the tech arrives, he checks the spring, cables, rollers, track alignment, and opener before quoting the fix - sometimes what sounded like a spring on the phone turns out to be a cable, and the price changes accordingly.

  3. Walking away from bad repairs

You'll get the number before any work starts, not after. If the repair isn't worth it - say, a 1970s door with a rusted-out bottom panel and an opener that's also failing - we'll say that plainly instead of patching it twice.

Our limits

What We Will Not Do

We won't quote a firm price over the phone for anything involving a bent track, a double door with uneven lift, or an opener that's throwing error codes we haven't diagnosed in person - those vary too much door to door to guess at honestly.

We won't tell you a repair will last if the door itself is near the end of its run; with housing in this area spanning 1943 through 2011, some of what we find is original hardware that's simply done, and no amount of adjusting changes that.

We don't do work outside garage doors and openers - no siding, no general handyman jobs. And we won't show up without a window you agreed to. If something changes on our end, we call.

Questions

Common questions

Can you give me a price without coming out?

For common jobs like a broken spring on a standard double door or a cable off the drum, yes, if you can describe the door and the problem. Anything involving a bent track, an unknown noise, or an opener error code needs a look in person before we can commit to a number.

Do you serve towns outside Cedar Rapids?

Yes. We work throughout the surrounding area, including Fairfax, Hiawatha, Marion, Robins, Ely, and out as far as Coralville and North Liberty. Tell us your town when you call and we'll confirm it's in range before scheduling.

Why can't you quote my opener issue by phone?

Opener problems can come from the logic board, the sensors, the gears, or a spring issue masquerading as an opener fault. Since the symptoms often overlap, we'd rather test it in person than quote a part that turns out to be the wrong one.

What if my door isn't worth repairing?

If the door is old enough or damaged enough that a repair won't hold, we tell you that instead of billing for a fix that fails again in six months. You decide from there whether repair or replacement makes more sense.
